Frequently asked questions
These are the questions real buyers ask — collected from search behaviour and community threads, answered from the same sourced evidence the rest of the site runs on. Where the honest answer is 'that's a medical question' or 'that claim can't be verified', that's the answer you'll get.
General questions
Do silver or 'antibacterial' sheets protect you from germs?
No. US regulation limits treated bedding to protecting the fabric itself, the leading silver-sheet brand's own footnote says the finish doesn't protect users from bacteria or disease organisms, and a 52-week randomised trial of silver textiles found no clinical benefit. The real, permitted benefit is fabric odour resistance between washes.
Are premium cooling sheets actually worth it over cheap ones?
The measurable differences are fibre and weave, not the word 'cooling'. A well-woven natural-fibre set beats a polyester 'cooling' set on moisture handling in published comparisons — sometimes at a similar price. Pay for fabric, never for the adjective.
How often should you replace pillows?
AAFA's general guidance says about every two years, though no trial has tested an interval against health outcomes. What is well documented: old pillows accumulate fungal load and dust-mite allergen — and allergist guidance favours mite-proof encasements and weekly washing over replacement schedules.
What pillow height does a side sleeper need?
Enough to fill the gap between neck and shoulder-point on your mattress — clinical height-fitting commonly landed adults between roughly 55 and 85 mm of settled height. The evidence points at height and shape, not fill material, as what drives neck alignment.
Where do hotels really buy their pillows?
From hospitality suppliers in moderate-spec, durable constructions — and when a consumer brand claims to share those suppliers without naming a single hotel, that claim can't be verified. We found no independent corroboration for the one such claim we assessed.
Do cooling sheets keep working after repeated washing?
Plain fabric properties — airflow, wicking — survive normal laundering. Applied treatments deplete: silver coatings measurably lost 48–72% of their silver over twenty washes in controlled testing, so gentle care matters if a finish is part of what you paid for.
What bedding helps with drenching night sweats?
None — and we'd rather lose a sale than dodge that. Regularly soaking through sheets in a cool room is a symptom the NHS says warrants a GP visit, especially with fever, cough or unexplained weight loss. Fabric helps warm sleepers at the margin; it does not treat night sweats.
Is a higher thread count always better?
No — beyond the 200–400 range where quality cotton lives, higher counts usually mean multi-ply counting tricks, heavier fabric and less airflow. Fibre and weave decide quality; the count is a tiebreak.
Miracle Made® sheets review: what the evidence supports — and what it doesn't
Do Miracle Made® sheets really kill bacteria?
Silver ions do suppress odour-causing bacteria in the fabric itself — that much is documented. But the brand's own fine print states the finish does not protect users against bacteria or disease organisms, and US regulation only permits treated articles to claim protection of the article itself.
Can you wash Miracle Made® sheets normally?
Yes — the manufacturer says machine wash. Published laundering studies show silver-treated fabrics can shed a meaningful share of their silver over many washes, so follow the care label and skip bleach and fabric softener. Our wash guide covers the details.
Do the sheets stop night sweats?
No bedding treats night sweats. Fabric choice can make a warm sleeper more comfortable, but the NHS advises seeing a GP if you regularly wake up soaked — that is a medical symptom, not a bedding problem.
What sizes do they come in, and do they fit thick mattresses?
Twin through California King, with pockets specified for mattresses up to 17 inches — one of the deeper fits in the category.
What happens if I don't like them?
You have 100 nights from delivery on US orders. The brand pays return shipping, there's no restocking fee, and used or washed sheets are accepted. Email their support team to start the return; original shipping fees aren't refunded.
FluffCo pillow review: the hotel promise vs the paper trail
Is FluffCo a legitimate company?
It is a real Delaware LLC operating from Los Angeles, with a registered trademark and a working store — this is not a phantom shop. Legitimacy of the company and reliability of its advertising are different questions; the BBB has formally challenged the latter and had no response.
Why does the BBB give FluffCo an F?
BBB cites advertising issues it identified and the company's failure to respond to a complaint. Separately, BBB's May 2026 request that FluffCo substantiate its review counts, awards and Made-in-USA claim went unanswered as of June 2026.
Is the FluffCo pillow used by real hotels?
No hotel is named by the brand, and we found no independent source connecting the pillow to any hotel or hotel group. The claim as worded — 'the same suppliers as large 5-star hotels' — cannot be verified.
Can I return the FluffCo pillow if I don't like it?
Yes, within 30 nights of delivery — but you pay return shipping with no prepaid label, original shipping and processing fees are not refunded, and the pillow must be unstained and undamaged. Flash-sale items and orders over five hundred dollars are excluded.
Is it better than a down pillow?
Different, not better: microfibre down-alternatives tend to be firmer and springier, don't need fluffing the way down does, and suit allergy-cautious buyers — but without published fill specs, this particular pillow can't be compared on numbers. Our loft guide explains how to choose by sleep position.
Cooling sheets in 2026: what actually works, assessed on the evidence
Do cooling sheets actually work?
As fabric, yes: breathability and moisture handling differ measurably between fibres and weaves, and a better fabric makes a warm sleeper more comfortable. As a temperature-lowering device, no — treat any specific 'degrees cooler' claim without published methodology as marketing.
What's the coolest sheet fabric?
Linen and crisp cotton percale lead for airflow; cotton sateen stays breathable with a softer feel; measured comparisons generally place polyester knits behind natural fibres for moisture handling.
Are bamboo sheets really bamboo?
Usually not in the way it sounds — most are rayon made from bamboo cellulose, and the FTC has fined major retailers for labelling that rayon as bamboo. The fabric can still feel cool; the label is the issue.
Does a higher thread count sleep hotter?
Extremely high counts pack more yarn into the fabric, which can reduce airflow. The 200–400 range covers most well-made cotton; the number alone tells you less than fibre and weave do.
I sweat through my sheets most nights — will better sheets fix it?
No. Regularly waking up soaked is a symptom the NHS says warrants a GP visit — especially with fever, cough or unexplained weight loss. Fabric helps warm sleepers at the margin; it does not treat night sweats.
Cooling sheets vs a hotel pillow: which upgrade first?
Should I replace my sheets or my pillow first?
Match the upgrade to the complaint. Waking up hot points at the fabric layer — sheets first. Waking up with neck stiffness points at pillow loft and firmness — pillow first, and read our loft guide before choosing by brand.
Which purchase is lower-risk?
The sheets, decisively. Their 100-night window with brand-paid US return shipping means an unsuitable set costs you almost nothing to send back; the pillow's 30-night window costs your shipping plus the withheld original fees.
Are these two products even comparable?
Not head-to-head as objects — one is fabric, one is fill. They're compared here because they compete for the same upgrade budget, and the evidence quality behind each is very different, which matters more than the category.
Is the cheaper option the better value?
Cheaper to buy, yes. Value depends on what happens if it disappoints: a return on the pillow costs you real money, while the sheets' return costs you nearly nothing. Price is what you pay on day one; the returns policy is the price of being wrong.
Could I just buy both?
If the budget allows, they don't overlap — but we'd still sequence it: sheets first for the trial window, then decide on the pillow once you've read its review, including the BBB's unresolved advertising challenge.
Sleep temperature: the complete evidence-based guide
What's the difference between sleeping hot and night sweats?
Sleeping hot is discomfort explained by the room or the bedding. Night sweats, per the NHS, is soaking through nightclothes and sheets even when the environment is cool — and that regular pattern warrants a GP conversation, especially with fever, cough or weight loss.
Do cooling sheets really make a difference?
At the fabric level, yes — airflow and moisture handling differ measurably between fibres and weaves, and natural fibres generally handle moisture better than common polyester knits. No sheet lowers your body temperature, and specific 'degrees cooler' claims rarely come with a method.
Is silver bedding worth it?
As odour control for the fabric, it has a documented mechanism. As health protection, no — regulation forbids the claim for treated articles and a year-long randomised trial found no clinical benefit. Pay for the fabric, not the halo.
How often should pillows be replaced?
AAFA suggests every two years as general guidance, but no study has tested an interval against outcomes. The stronger-evidence moves are mite-proof encasements and weekly hot-enough washing per allergist practice guidance — and replacing any pillow that's lost its loft.
Should I buy a firmer pillow for neck pain?
Buy the right height before the right firmness: the clinical literature points at loft and shape as the drivers of alignment in side-lying, and at pillow choice affecting neck pain and waking symptoms. Our loft guide turns that into a measuring method.
How to wash silver-infused sheets without ruining them
Can I use hot water on silver-infused sheets?
Follow the care label; cooler cycles are the safer default. Heat is one of the stressors associated with faster treatment loss in laundering studies — and most routine washing doesn't need it.
Why no fabric softener?
Softener coats fibre surfaces — the exact surfaces the silver treatment and cotton's moisture-wicking depend on. It's the cheapest thing to skip for the biggest preservation effect.
Do silver sheets need washing less often?
No verified evidence supports washing treated bedding less often, and hygiene guidance doesn't change with the fabric. Weekly-ish remains the sensible schedule.
How long does the silver last?
It depends on construction. Surface-coated fabrics measurably shed silver over tens of washes; fibre-embedded constructions retain far more. Gentle washing slows the clock on either.
Will bleach ruin them permanently?
It's the fastest way to spend the silver and stress the cotton at once. Spot-treat stains instead, and keep chlorine away from the load.
How to choose pillow loft: the measurement most people skip
What loft do side sleepers need?
Enough to fill your measured shoulder gap on your mattress — commonly landing in the roughly 55–85 mm settled-height range clinical fitting produced, higher on firm mattresses and broad shoulders. Measure; don't guess.
What about back sleepers?
Meaningfully lower than side sleepers, aiming for a slight forward neck tilt rather than a propped head — the fitting protocol used about 15 degrees as its target picture.
Is a firm pillow better for neck pain?
Firmness only helps once the height is right — support at the wrong height just holds the wrong posture more insistently. The evidence points at height and shape as the primary variables.
Do 'hotel' pillows suit everyone?
No — plump-and-firm is simply a high-loft profile. It suits side sleepers with bigger gaps and firmer mattresses, and routinely overshoots back sleepers.
How do I test a pillow properly?
At home, in your position, for at least several nights, judging mornings rather than first impressions — which is why the returns terms belong in the buying decision alongside the pillow itself.
Bedding fabrics, compared honestly
Percale or sateen?
Percale is the crisp, airy, matte weave; sateen is the smooth, lustrous, heavier one. Hot sleepers who like a cool touch lean percale; sateen trades a little airflow for softness while staying breathable cotton.
Is linen worth the price?
For the hottest sleepers, often — woven flax fabrics posted strong moisture-management results in peer-reviewed testing, and linen's airflow reputation is deserved. It's a texture you either love or don't.
Are bamboo sheets a scam?
The fabric is real; the label often isn't. Nearly all 'bamboo' bedding is rayon made from bamboo cellulose — cool-feeling, silky, legitimate — and the FTC has fined major retailers for calling that rayon 'bamboo'.
Is microfibre bad?
It's inexpensive, soft and durable — and in measured knit comparisons polyester tends to handle moisture worst, which matters precisely for the hot sleepers 'cooling microfibre' is marketed to.
Do treated fabrics justify a premium?
Only for the narrow property they add — silver's odour resistance is real at the fabric level, for example. Pay for fibre and weave first; treat any finish as a small bonus, never the reason.
The thread-count myth, in two minutes
Is thread count a scam?
The measurement is real; the inflation is the trick. Counting each ply of multi-ply yarn turns modest fabric into four-figure marketing.
What's the minimum acceptable count?
Around 200 in quality cotton weaves perfectly good percale. Below that, examine the fabric more carefully.
Do hotels use high thread counts?
Hospitality bedding typically prioritises durability and laundering economics — moderate counts in hard-wearing weaves — which says something about where the practical sweet spot sits.
Does weave change how a count feels?
Completely — 300 in crisp percale and 300 in smooth sateen are different pillows-to-cheek experiences from identical numbers.
Should the count decide between two sets?
Only after fibre, weave and returns policy have tied — which they rarely do.
